On Being an Adult

Last night I was writing a birthday card for a very dear friend of mine who is turning 24 next week. I know I am 24 but it was strange to realize that I AM 24 and my friends are turning 24 (some today - Happy Birthday Dave!) and Dan is almost 25. Which makes us all in our mid-twenties. MID. Holy Moly.

I am not someone who freaks out about turning another year older. At all. In fact, there have been many, many times in my life where I have wished I was older, or at least looked older (I think I have since gained the wisdom to appreciate my youth while I'm in it). And I am not freaking out now, it was just a revelation of sorts that wow, we aren't kids pretending to be adults anymore, we ARE adults.

Today was evidence in that not only because I drove a car that I (we) own to a job I got with my own skills and I didn't even speed because I am responsible and then after work I did some errands that I didn't particularily feel like doing but had to do (a real sign of adulthood) because they needed to get done. No, not for those reasons but for two others that I did today:
  • Call the bank to set up an appointment to open an RRSP
  • Call the dentist to get an appointment for a checkup & cleaning

I know! So mature of me. Yep, I must be all growed up for sure.
