items of no importance (to you)

Well, I know it's been a LONG while since the last post on this here blog, but I have some news to post, so why not!!

1. I just saw Joshua Jackson (Pacey from Dawson's Creek, and Charlie from Mighty Ducks 1, 2 & 3) in Fort Langley! I was driving through and there he was, standing in front of a camera, probably doing his job. This is my first celebrity sighting ever!

2. Probably of more significance, I passed my LEED test! I took it on Monday after studying for what felt like eons. I am glad that is off my plate and now I can do more important things making muffins and doing crafts. (For those who don't know - LEED is a sustainable/green building rating system. I did it mainly to see if I could, for one, and also people who hire other people in my field like to see those letters behind a name....)

3. The house is going good. Drywalling is apparently happening - we haven't been over there since Thanksgiving weekend. I am trying to decide what colours the inside should be painted. Haven't a clue, fyi.

4. We are off to Seattle next weekend (uh, I think) for a little fun time of walking around and looking around. Planning on doing this with our friends Dave & Rachel for a while, so we are all hoping that next Friday is departure day!

Happy Wednesday!

So far, we have had a summer full of friends and fun. August will be more of the same, but with some flights sprinkled in there just to mix it up a bit!

Sunday, abbreviated.

It's July already!

Helen is still adorable!

This is my favorite picture from the latest batch!

And this one...
Kori entered Helen in a cute baby feature that they do in the provincial paper every Sunday. She used one of my photos for the contest entry. We have no doubt she will win!

Dan & I have been doing some stuff. I don't really know what. Just stuff! We've just been enjoying the weather and Dan has been working quite a bit. Heidi is coming to visit next week (and to work) and I am quite excited about seeing her!
Today we went to look at some appliances and were pleased with what we saw. You can find the house update in photos here. Word on the street is that concrete it being poured tomorrow!

out and about, in and around

Just some photos of what we have been up to lately! Enjoy!
Family in White Rock
(more photos from their visit below! keep scolling!)
Evan & Jen's Wedding
Our friends got married on June 7, and it was a lovely wedding in a beautiful garden. Unfortunately, Dan & I had to leave the reception early because HILLARY! and MIKE! were coming that day. But we saw them wed and even met some awesome friends of theirs (Craig & Jenny) who live in Abbotsford and we want to be friends with them now too! So it was a good day and great to be reminded of love and committment as June 8 was our second anniversary!

Hatzic Lake
Our first adventure out to the lake this summer! A beautiful night of fun with all the sibs.
Helen was in her baby jail. I don't think she minded!

My Family Visits!
Hill & Mike arrived on Sunday and Mom & Dad drove out Tuesday. We had a great time with them. Explored Fort Langley and White Rock, and of course just ate and were together. Here is Mike demonstrating his computing ability.

Dan's Birthday
25 now. Old. And the proud owner of a wet/dry vac and a bunch of books to read! We had ice cream cake at Friday lunch, and for dinner went out with my family and Dave & Rachel (our friends, not the out-laws)

And Helen, because she is CUTE! And can CRAWL! These photos were taken just last night. At one point she had two soothers and was confused on just which one should be in her mouth. She is too adorable for words!

On Being an Adult

Last night I was writing a birthday card for a very dear friend of mine who is turning 24 next week. I know I am 24 but it was strange to realize that I AM 24 and my friends are turning 24 (some today - Happy Birthday Dave!) and Dan is almost 25. Which makes us all in our mid-twenties. MID. Holy Moly.

I am not someone who freaks out about turning another year older. At all. In fact, there have been many, many times in my life where I have wished I was older, or at least looked older (I think I have since gained the wisdom to appreciate my youth while I'm in it). And I am not freaking out now, it was just a revelation of sorts that wow, we aren't kids pretending to be adults anymore, we ARE adults.

Today was evidence in that not only because I drove a car that I (we) own to a job I got with my own skills and I didn't even speed because I am responsible and then after work I did some errands that I didn't particularily feel like doing but had to do (a real sign of adulthood) because they needed to get done. No, not for those reasons but for two others that I did today:
  • Call the bank to set up an appointment to open an RRSP
  • Call the dentist to get an appointment for a checkup & cleaning

I know! So mature of me. Yep, I must be all growed up for sure.

Like Leah, I also have a cute niece! We babysat on Saturday and I took some photos of her (of course I did!) She poses for the camera! She's only 8 months old and loves it! (The last one is my favorite - it's my desktop at work!)

the travel game

Dan & I were in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico this past week enjoying some sun and sand and time away from home. We had fun but are glad to be back. Isn't that how it normally goes though?
We mainly stayed at our hotel and hung out reading by the pool or on the beach, but we also did a canopy tour through the tress in the Sierra Madres. We had to go in a truck for an hour into the mountains and once there we ziplined around in the trees, about 20m above the ground. We really enjoyed it and are glad we did that.

When we travel, we always play this game that we made up and isn't really a game at all. We (usually me) pick a party of travellers that we just don't like and then have fun rolling our eyes at them and talking about them during the wait in the airport. We call these people our travel enemies, although we really don't know anything about them and have no reason to not like them. It's pretty much based on first impressions.

This time round our travel enemies were a couple that we sat down across from at the gate while we were waiting to board. You know the kind of people they were I am sure. The type of people who wear their passports and travel docs on strings around their necks (nothing wrong with that, I guess) and who don't shut up about how cool they are. The woman was wearing a tennis skirt and one of those 'cowboy hats' that you can only get in Mexico, and the dude kept talking about his diving gear and his iPhone and how much a subway sandwich cost. Also, he was wearing track pants on the flight home, and if you know me at all, you'll know I don't believe in wearing athletic gear outside of the privacy of your own home, or if in fact you are doing something athletic. They also stood right next to the baggage carousel and then moved around it to be closer to the place where the bags come out. Ugh.

So generally we just make note of these people and secretly make fun of them and then if we see them again at the airport at the end of the trip our game is to beat them at everything. Get better airplane seats, get through customs, getting our luggage, getting to park & fly. I am sad to say that we did not beat our travel enemies this time round. But they did make for some entertainment!

Here are some photos from our trip.
