sometimes I forget I have a blog

That is to say, I didn’t blog very much in September, and now here we are at the end of it. Time sure flies.

I didn’t realize how tired and busy my first month of work would make me. I think now I am starting to adjust to working full time and will now be able to keep doing my own stuff at home etc. because I won’t need to only eat and sleep once I am home at 5:30.

Work has been going well for the most part. I am working on a couple interesting projects, and a couple not so interesting. I believe I am on 4 or 5 projects of the 15 or so in the office right now. Here are what they are (briefly):
1. reno an existing house to create a house in the layout the clients found online. The existing house is one story, L-shaped. The house they want is some sort of cross between a Tudor style and Craftsman (figure that one out), and they want to use the existing foundation as much as possible.
2. Convert an existing operating dairy barn into office space for a huge dairy group. Now I don’t know if you have ever been INTO an operating dairy barn, but converting it to an office seems a bit ridiculous to me. But hey, to each his own.
3. Plan an office layout in an awkwardly shaped room.
4. Sunroom addition for a woman who has already sold her house (maybe) but the buyers are ok with it and really the room is for her dog because her house is pretty small.
I am sure you can imagine where there might be challenges, and also some entertainment, even if I have to keep that part to myself.

Today my plans include laundry, making cookies (maybe…we’ll see how the other stuff goes) purchasing supplies for my next cake class, and making a pumpkin almond cheesecake. If that turns out well I will post the recipe. I am looking forward to my day, despite the fact that the sun is not shining and the sky is grey. I really miss fall in the prairies….

So yes, as aforementioned, I have signed up for two more cake classes. The first one is Fondant and Gumpaste, and the second one is Course 2. The first one starts on Thursday night, and the other one not until November. I didn’t realize that I would miss the first night of Fondant and Gumpaste because we will be in ONTARIO!!!!!! That is ok though, because Kylie also taking the classes and she will fill me in.

I just have to say that I like TV, and I am glad that two shows I like have started again…it was a good Thursday night at the Wall’s house…Steve and Kylie’s I mean.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Learning is Fun!

I can't believe it's been a week already, more in fact, since I last posted. Blogging has become somewhat less fun since the picture adding part of it can't happen around here. Oh well, I will still try my best to keep the masses informed. I use the term "masses" lightly.

Anyway, I got the job! I called on Tuesday morning, and on Tuesday around lunch got a call back and around 2 I went in for my first day! So it's been a bit of a whirlwind, but pretty good so far. They use a different program from what I learned at SAIT, so even though I had had some exposure to this drafting software, there is still a learning curve. And of course every office has it's own stuff to learn anyway. So those things have been difficult, along with learning how to have a full time job that wasn't at camp where you can (and are encouraged) to go play for a while if you want. I like my boss and the two other people I work with. They are all really nice and welcoming etc.

Cake class numero duex (how DO you spell "two" in French? or Spanish? This is why I did not take a Language class..ever) was last night. Quite enjoyable. We learned how to pipe stars and curving lines, zigzags and dots, outlines and letters. It was harder than I imagined, but also fun. Dad, I LIKE going to cake class! Being taught something new, (I realize now that I am old enough to appreciate it) is something I really enjoy. I decorated a cake with a fall theme...yellow cake with chocolate icing and then I did leaf shapes on top and filled them in with stars. I took a picture of it to document not only my first "Wilton" cake, but also how much I still suck! Because obviously my next ones will be phenomenal and will win prizes and medals.

Dan and I have been watching The Office lately. We bought season 3 on DVD last week and have been enjoying the episodes in preparation for season 4, which starts sometime I assume. Oh The Office, how I love thee.

Here is a point of interest...
As of tomorrow I will have 6 email addresses. One work (brand spanking new), two personal (one I don't use, but is handy for junk and signing up for things online etc), one I put on my resume, one with Telus, one from SAIT.
That is a disgusting amount of email addresses. Oh well.

Does anybody have some book suggestions? I am due for a library visit on Friday and need to have some titles to look for...

wife-in' it up

I haven't really felt like blogging lately, but somebody insisted on a new post, and I do agree that the time has come according to the calendar, but not according to life occurances or daily events.

Anyway, what can I tell you?

This past Friday was the Wall's annual pig roast, which is exactly what it sounds like. I had attended once before - last summer - and had an enjoyable time considering Dan and I had driven from Calgary the night before and arrived in Abbotsford on the Friday at 4AM. This year was better than I had anticipated, and even though I still didn't know (m)any of the guests, that was ok because Brandon came and he is always great to have around. He was still laughing about his time with my aunties (he really likes all of you aunties!) at me and Dan's wedding, and he gave us a MAGIC BULLET for a wedding gift.

Today is Labour Day, and while that means nothing for Dan, it does make me feel better about not having a job yet, because if I was working I would have this day off anyway, so therefore I can do what I want and don't have to be productive and working around all day. I still have not heard back from my potential employer, but plan on calling him tomorrow to see where things are at. I always hate to call, but I know that I must.

This afternoon we started to destroy our dead garden in preparation for making something better. It was a total disaster before, and while it still is, it's getting better. Dad and Dan cut pretty much all of it down a few weekends ago and then we rounded up and today Dan and I took out a fallen over archway and a large vine and chicken wire and a rotting fence. I took a before shot so someday I will try to post that someplace on the internet.

I sound like an old lady talking about my garden. Sheesh.

Oh, Kylie and I are taking a cake decorating class that starts tomorrow night. It's at Michaels the craft store and is for 4 weeks, one evening a week. I am looking forward to this and I hope that I learn something and that it is acually fun. I think it will be. I am glad to be taking it with someone I know and like, because then if it turns out to be ridiculous we can be sarcastic about it together. I'll keep you posted on what goes on.

I am going to go watch a documentary on Tupperware now, and bake a lasagna.

This whole post makes me sound like I'm a wife in the '50's..
