people watching

Tonight I met up with my friend Jenn, so I took the c-train down to Chinook station...

story one:
On the way there, two guys got on and sat across from me. It soon became obvious that one of these guys was new to Calgary, and the other guy was his friend visiting him. The second guy had a pretty heavy accent, and I think he was from Eastern Canada - in any case he hadn't seen the Rockies before. Guy one is explaining the city to guy two, telling him about "tunnels" that connect down town buildings (which are actually +15's that go over the city streets), the Calgary tower, Olympic Plaza (outdoor ice rink that is downtown). Soon we pass the stampede grounds and shortly after the Talisman Centre. Guy one says to guy two, pointing to Talisman Centre, "That's the Saddledome". Naturally I had to correct him, and then they named me the tour guide.

story two:
Coming back home, a couple sat across from me. Their conversation was quite interesting to listen to. My version of their story is that they went out for a nice dinner and had a great time, and at the end of this dinner she told him "She needed more space". I missed some of the good parts of their conversation because we were going underground and it was loud, but basically she wanted to go out with another friend tonight after dinner and wanted more freedom, from him I guess, and he wasn't a big fan of this plan. It really sounded like they were breaking up over this. He replied with "You never pay attention to me anymore", and she said "Well you don't know what it's like to be pregnant". I wanted to know more, but then they got off the train.

you take your sweaters, you take your time

I have to say, it's been a while since I've just sat down at my computer and listened to music and made a new blog. The day has come I guess, and I am enjoying it.

On a side note, Happy Birthday to my cousins, Amy and Courtney!

A lot has been happening in the world and in my life as of late. I don't watch a lot of news programs, but I do watch breakfast television in the mornings, and also Ellen, which is where I get most of my information concerning the day to day in the world. I know that Lent started on Wednesday. I thought yesterday was Wednesday though, but it wasn't. The middle of February really came fast. I also know that the Oscars are on Sunday night. Ellen tells me this every day since she is hosting them this year. I don't really care so much, but she is funny and sometimes it's fun to see some of the dresses etc, so maybe I will tune in for part of it.

My work term starts on Monday. It's just a week long, and I have the priviledge of going to Ferrari Westwood Architects in Lethbridge. I am not sure what they will have me do, but I a sure that I will enjoy my week in Leth and that I will learn alot. And I will be loving the fact that I don't have homework next week.

I think I spent about 12 hours correcting the same things on drawings this week. Apparently some people don't understand how to ue xrefs in a drawing, and if you don't know how to use AutoCad chances are you don't either. But it really bugged me this week and made me stressed out a lot. The good news is that all our files are organized and our group will be ready to start on the next thing when we get back in two weeks. I am going to hold an xrefing session. Drafting techs should know this in their careers.

Anyway, last weekend I went to Abbotsford to visit the love of my life Daniel Wall. I had a half-ass reading break, and got to enjoy green grass, a little sun, my birthday, Grey's Anatomy, a calf starting to be born, coffee with a college friend, a queen size bed, the future in-laws (who I quite like, PS), and the ag show from Thursday to Monday - thanks to Alberta's best stat day, Family Day, and to SAIT for needing pro-development days.

Dan gave me a MEC zip up for my b-day, and Rachel (that's his mom) gave me Pampered Chef prep bowls. I am quite happy with both of these gifts, but I left the PC gift at Dan's house because I want to use them when we get married. And then it's like I get them again! I don't have any pics of my weekend, because even though I have gone digital, I didn't take any pictures, like usual.

So in preparation for my life after school, and also for work week, I have started to put together my portfolio of work. I can' believe how much stuff I've done in 14 months. It's kind of fun to look at my old drawings and see how my skills have improved over that time. It's actually just nice knowing that they have improved. I notice this mostly with autocad drawings, because you learn how to do things better with each assignment, and it's obvious. I fear my sketching and hand rendering abilities have slipped a bit, but that is what you get when you don't do it for a year. I am looking forward to the day when I finish organizing all of my files of all of my SAIT stuff...(Yes, I am a geek, and it's always a dead give away when the long posts are made on a Friday night.)

Well, I have to work tomorrow, and that means there are only 7 more Saturdays before I am done school. That doesn't seem like so many, which is good, because I generally dislike my job, even though it's not really that bad. If at any point it's sucking, it's because of mall people. They are mean and grumpy most of the time, not at all like the people buying lotto and cigarettes.

I need to call my boyfriend now and prep him for premarital counseling next weekend. Just joking! (About the prep, not the counseling.)

the latest and greatest (I'm not talking about new blogger)

My apologies for not making my posts very personal lately. I haven't had much to say lately, but today I decided it doesn't matter what I say, so I can say it anyway and that is fine.

Mom and dad came to visit me yesterday. We went to Ikea and to a mall and also to Safeway and out for supper at Red Lobster. It was a good day. I like when they come to see me!

I couldn't sleep last night worth a darn. Well, actually I did fall asleep only to wake up an hour later and not be able to sleep. Why does this happen? I would like to know.

This morning I made 2 chicken pot pies. We had one for supper and one is in the freezer waiting for a day when there is no food to eat. I also made some banana choco. muffs last night, and some cookies last week, so I am pretty well stocked on the baking at the moment. I really like to bake. Food is definitely one of the greatest pleasures of my life.

Facts of the day:
-right now it feels like -27 degress celcius outside in Calgary. It's actually only -19, but with wind you get to freeze your butt off (literally) if you go outside. I have to work tomorrow night, so I am hoping (but not really believing) that it will not be so cold tomorrow. I don't enjoy walking home at 9:30 PM when it's -30 ish and snowing.
-short weeks of school don't really feel short. We have a fake reading week coming up, which really means that we have this Thursday and Friday off and also Monday, which is family day. I am going to Abbotsford for these days, where it's 7 degress celcius, and only raining!
-I talk about weather a lot

The wedding invitations are made and ready to be mailed. Actually, they need addresses and stamps still, but other than that they are done. And I must say I quite like them. Maybe I will put a picture of them up once I send them out. I don't want to ruin the surprise after all!

Heidi is going to Texas tomorrow. Actually tomorrow she is going home, and then will go on to Texas. She's going to El Paso to do her Photo Journalism internship, so that will be fun for her, and lonely for me, and also not lonely. Speaking of internships, I will be doing my "work week" in Lethbridge at Ferrari Westwood Architects, and I am quite excited about this. It took a bit of work for this to come together, but now it has and that is a load off my mind.

Well, now I am bored and will go do something else. Probably homework, which is perhaps equally boring, but this is after all the Procrastination Station!!

I switched to Blogger beta...which better be better. I'll keep you posted. I'm going to try to figure it out now.

Today was the first day this semester that was still light out when I walked home after school at 6PM. It was lovely. Cold, but lovely.

Here are some pictures of my Lake Louise day with Lindsey and ice sculptures - I hope you can see them!
